Into The Looking Glass

as i look into the mirror
i see a face i know
behind the mask i see my eyes
staring back into my soul.
no one can see there
except those i let in
behind my walls of freedom
i'm a prisoner within.
dark little corners
shadows shining so bright
crumbled pieces of wishes
and decaying thoughts of delight
various hopes lie scattered on the floor
covered by the dust of disappointment
and the cobwebs of happiness soar
a kalidescope of smiles
within the prizm of tears
lies my heart in patches
scars from all the years
years of laughter and of sorrow
years of searing pain
and burning joy
years with memories of angels
years of their tears
behind my fortress of emotion
my castle of peace
i look back into the reflection
and refuse to allow entrance
to those who cannot wish to really see.
